AEW Dynamite Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights from June 26

Jungle Boy has had monumental nights in his young professional wrestling career before, but nothing quite like he experienced Saturday night on TNT as the No. 1 contender to the AEW World Championship challenged Kenny Omega in the night's blockbuster main event.

Was young Jack Perry able to channel the momentum he earned by way of his victory in the Casino Battle Royale at Double or Nothing and win the first singles title of his AEW career, or did the virtuoso Omega retain, continuing his extraordinary 2021 with another signature victory?

Team Taz's Powerhouse Hobbs opted to go it alone in the night's opening contest, a singles showdown with the former No. 1-ranked Hangman Page. The anxious millennial cowboy's early onslaught came to an abrupt end with a clubbing clothesline to the back of his head. Hobbs focused on the arm of his opponent, hoping to negate the Buckshot Lariat.

Despite a laceration on the back of his head, Page fought back into the match, delivering a moonsault for a close two-count. He withstood attempted interference from Team Taz henchmen Ricky Starks and Hook, as well as a spinebuster from Hobbs, to deliver the Dead Eye and score the pinfall victory.

Analysis

Page is as consistently great a performer as AEW has right now—a performer who can be counted on to deliver in any spot on the card, against just about any wrestler on the roster. He pops the crowd, creates energy for his matches and proceeds to back everything up once the bell rings.

This was no different. Despite an inadvertent cut on the back of his head, he fought through and made Hobbs look every bit his equal right up to the finish.

Hobbs, himself, continued to demonstrate why he is one of the company's most promising young stars thanks to improved timing and a move set that evolves with every passing match. He is going to be an enormous star for AEW one day, and working with guys like Page will only help him get there sooner.

Brian Cage hitting the ring to chase off Starks and Hook was a nice touch and continues his breakup from Team Taz and the eventual feud with Hobbs over the FTW Championship. That battle of the hosses should be hella fun to watch.

Konnan and Tully Blanchard joined Tony Schiavone for a summit between the two mentors of Proud and Powerful and FTR, respectively.

Konnan cut a promo about his relationship with Santana and Ortiz, while Blanchard put over FTR. Just as it appeared as though Proud and Powerful had joined Konnan in the ring, Blanchard threw to footage from the backstage area of Santana and Ortiz writhing in pain.

The competitors removed their masks, revealing themselves to be Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler. They delivered a vicious spike piledriver to Konnan and stood tall to close the segment.

Analysis

This was a great little setup angle that adds heat to the tag team feud between Proud and Powerful and FTR, especially after Konnan effectively established his relationship with the babyface tandem.

The result will be an even more heated match if and when it finally occurs, with the added element of Konnan and Blanchard around ringside to enhance things.

Prior to his scheduled match with Top Flight's Dante Martin, Matt Sydal interrupted a major announcement from Vickie Guerrero and Andrade El Idolo, much to the chagrin of the newcomer.

Sydal, the seasoned veteran, grounded his younger opponent and worked his knees over. Martin fought back and delivered a double springboard moonsault for a near-fall. Martin landed a stunner that nearly earned him the win, but Sydal absorbed it, fought back and delivered the Lightning Spiral for the pinfall victory.

After the match, a backstage promo featuring MJF, Wardlow and Shawn Spears devolved into another brawl with The Inner Circle, ending with Sammy Guevara making the save and vowing to beat MJF next week.

Analysis

The prematch tease of Sydal vs. Andrade should have fans salivating because that matchup is almost guaranteed to deliver excellence between the ropes.

Sydal and Martin delivered a fun, competitive match that showcased young Martin before ultimately giving Sydal a much-needed win as his presence on the show figures to increase.

There will be some who suggest Andrade vs. Sydal is hardly what the newcomer should be involved in if the goal is to make him into a star right out of the gate, but they would be wrong. Sydal is a great bumper and creative worker. Putting him in there with Andrade will not only result in a great match but also put El Idolo over as strongly as possible.

In other news, the Inner Circle vs. Pinnacle feud needlessly continued, albeit with more strong booking of future star Guevara.

A week after defeating Darby Allin in a handicap match, The Men of the Year made their presence felt as "All Ego" Ethan Page battled Bear Bronson. Scorpio Sky and Bear Boulder accompanied their respective tag team partners.

Bronson exploded through the ropes with a tope suicida, but a distraction of the official allowed Sky to interject himself in the match and seize control for Page. Despite a strong comeback late in the match, further interference from the former AEW tag team champion allowed All Ego to deliver a low blow and finally, on his third try, the Ego's Edge for the pinfall victory.

After the match, Page reiterated his desire to be the nail in Darby Allin's coffin and challenged him to a coffin match on July 7 at Road Rager.

Analysis

Page appeared to be hampered by a lower right leg injury early but shook it off and turned in a solid performance against a game Bronson. Despite the big man's status as a primarily tag team wrestler, he performed up to the moment and never appeared to be over his head in there with a veteran competitor like Page.

The proposed coffin match is intriguing if only because the company has yet to try anything like it to this point in its short history. It will be interesting to see the execution of such a match, but the talent involved should ensure it is an above-average in-ring affair.

Kris Statlander, accompanied by Orange Cassidy, battled The Bunny, seconded by The Butcher, in the night's next match.

The 16-year veteran Bunny seized control after a superkick dropped Statlander to the floor. She controlled the match from there, beating her larger opponent down during the break. A blind charge on the floor, though, led to Statlander catching her with a powerslam.

Despite an attempt by Butcher to introduce brass knuckles to the match, Statlander caught Bunny with the Big Bang Theory for the win.

After the match, a sneak attack by Butcher, Jack Evans and Angelico led to a three-on-one beatdown of Cassidy. The heels stood tall to close out the segment.

Analysis

Statlander and Bunny had solid in-ring chemistry, and the win allowed the latter to build momentum for herself as she continues her comeback from a major knee injury.

The Hardy Family Office's post-match beatdown of Cassidy puts Freshly Squeezed on a collision course with the faction. Perhaps he might join Christian Cage in war with Hardy's faction?

In the biggest match of his young career, Jungle Boy challenged Kenny Omega for the AEW world title in the main event of Saturday's show...and he did it without the support of Luchasaurus and Marko Stunt, who were barred from ringside prior to the opening bell.

A back-and-forth match saw the challenger catch the champion in his Snare Trap submission while Stunt and Luchasaurus returned, fighting The Good Brothers out of Daily's Place and to the back. Jungle Boy reapplied the hold, but Omega raked the eyes, breaking it.

It proved to be the last great burst of offense the young contender would enjoy as Omega absorbed it and finished him with the One-Winged Angel.

After the match, Christian Cage prevented Omega from delivering another blow but ultimately fell victim to an attack by Hardy Family Office's Matt Hardy and Private Party and a double superkick from The Young Bucks.

The heels celebrated to close out the show.

Analysis

There were more than a few moments in the main event where Jungle Boy and Omega had the audience believing it was about to see a new champion crowned. That is a hell of a testament to what they accomplished.

The reappearance of Jurassic Express, negating the presence of The Good Brothers, was a great bit of booking that really emphasized the threat Omega found himself in, particularly when Jungle Boy applied the Snare Trap for the first time.

In the end, the predictable outcome reared its head, as did The Young Bucks joining Omega for a heat session to close out the broadcast.

And therein lies the one negative about the show.

How many weeks will AEW produce the Bucks getting heat at the end of a given segment before the audience becomes burned out or otherwise unaffected by it? Matt and Nick Jackson are great heels and have relished the opportunity to fill that role, but their booking in this particular regard has become repetitive to the point that it is almost ineffective at building any more heat for them.

Why? Because the audience knows it will get the same thing in a week or two.

At some point, the babyfaces have to fight back and find some success. Hopefully, that comes soon.
