5 Best Feuds for Drew McIntyre at WWE WrestleMania 37

Drew McIntyre was the clear focal point of The Road to WrestleMania in 2020 as he prepared to fight Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship. One year later, his path to WrestleMania 37 is a little less clear.

At Sunday's Elimination Chamber pay-per-view, the Scot bested five of Raw's finest to retain his coveted title, only to lose it minutes later to The Miz via a Money in the Bank cash-in. The Scottish Warrior was absent from Raw the next night, leaving fans to speculate what The Show of Shows will have in store for him this year.

The most obvious path for McIntyre is to chase the champion heading into the event, but WWE could have other ideas. After all, he's made enemies out of many members of the Raw roster during his reign and could face any number of people on The Grandest Stage of Them All.

One opponent he is least likely to collide with at WrestleMania is Miz, whose reign isn't bound to last. Additionally, McIntyre vs. The A-Lister has been done to death over the last four months and is by no means WrestleMania-worthy.

The rest of Raw's main event players, however, should be considered fair game. Regardless of whether he's involved in the WWE Championship mix at 'Mania or not, the following five feuds would virtually guarantee the Scot a prominent spot on the card and make storyline sense.

WWE has been teasing McIntyre against Sheamus since November, and that has to be with the intention of having them face off on at least one of the two nights at WrestleMania 37.

Otherwise, the last three months of them playing up their real-life friendship and Sheamus betraying him when he least expected it would have been for nothing. McIntyre agreed to give The Celtic Warrior a WWE Championship match at Elimination Chamber before it turned into what it became, something Sheamus has certainly not forgotten.

It would be asinine for WWE to still be playing up the possibility of them fighting each other if there was no plan for it to happen at some point. Fastlane is around the corner on March 21, and although that would be an appropriate place for them to go one-on-one, it would be best saved for The Show of Shows at this point.

If WWE prefers to have McIntyre challenging for the WWE title, then he could pull double duty over WrestleMania weekend on April 10-11 and have him battle Sheamus on Night 1.

They haven't had a true singles match in WWE, but they're guaranteed to give it their all and tear the roof off Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida.

It could be a scenario similar to WrestleMania 10 where Bret Hart lost to his brother, Owen, before capturing the WWE Championship later in the night.

Either way, McIntyre vs. Sheamus seems inevitable and deserves to go down on the grandest stage possible.

Despite having spent a considerable amount of time on Raw together since the spring of 2019, McIntyre and AJ Styles have yet to meet in a formal one-on-one match without any stipulations involved.

They've faced off in multiple tag team matches and had instant chemistry every time, but it wasn't until the TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs pay-per-view in December that they finally collided in singles competition.

It was a thrilling TLC match that soon turned into a Triple Threat once The Miz unsuccessfully cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase, meaning their rivalry went unresolved.

The two recently squared off during a Gauntlet match on Raw and in the closing moments of the red brand's Elimination Chamber match, but both encounters were short-lived. WWE keeping them apart could be because they're planning on having them go at it on The Grandest Stage of Them All.

Styles has had a high-profile match at 'Mania every year since debuting in 2016, and this year should be no different. Unless Triple H is coming out of retirement to give The Phenomenal One the dream match he's always wanted, then McIntyre is the next-best possible opponent for him and vice versa.

If Styles wants another crack at the title, he'll need to go through the former champ in order to get it. There's still much more magic to be made between these exceptional athletes in the ring, and WrestleMania would be the perfect place for it to happen.

McIntyre got his long-awaited crowning achievement in WWE when he dethroned Brock Lesnar as WWE champion in the main event of WrestleMania 36. Interestingly enough, The Beast Incarnate hasn't been seen on WWE TV since.

This is the longest break Lesnar has taken from the company since returning in 2012. There has been no indication he'll be back any time soon, but it's safe to assume he could well be a part of WrestleMania 37 having not missed an installment in a decade.

The Beast's days in the title picture should be done, but nothing is stopping him from rekindling his rivalry with McIntyre upon his return.

The Scottish Warrior is the one person he's faced and never beaten. Their WrestleMania 36 match was criminally short due to the circumstances and didn't get the reaction it deserved inside the empty Performance Center, so running that bout back one year later would be understandable.

That isn't to say Lesnar should avenge his loss to McIntyre or that this matchup is a must, but it would certainly be logical. It would provide them with the opportunity to produce the barnburner they're capable of in front of an actual audience and keep the Scot in the limelight.

There was a time two years ago when Drew McIntyre and Braun Strowman appeared to be the future faces of the flagship show. Sure enough, both men walked out of WrestleMania in 2020 as world champions.

It was a tale of two title reigns, though. McIntyre went on to dominate the Raw roster and step up his game whenever it mattered most, whereas Strowman faltered in the role and wasn't interesting or believable as a babyface champ.

Both men now find themselves back on the same show after The Monster Among Men was sent back to Raw in the 2020 WWE draft.

Per Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Wrestling Inc), Strowman was slated to challenge McIntyre for the WWE Championship at December's TLC pay-per-view before an injury forced the company to change plans.

The match has yet to happen, and Strowman's demands for a WWE Championship match in recent weeks haven't gone unnoticed. Although McIntyre is no longer in possession of the prestigious prize, the two behemoths could wage war at WrestleMania 37 in attempt to earn themselves a future shot at the strap.

Let the record show that of the five feuds listed in this article, Strowman is the least appealing option, if only because he hasn't been involved in anything special in a few years. That said, if anyone can get a great match out of The Monster Among Men and reestablish him as a threat, it's McIntyre.

It would also give the Scot another obstacle to overcome en route to getting his gold back.

After what went down at Elimination Chamber, the most obvious opponent for McIntyre at 'Mania would undoubtedly be Bobby Lashley.

The former ECW, United States and intercontinental champion was on the fast track to nowhere when 2020 started thanks to a never-ending angle with Lana. WWE eventually realized what it had—and what it was wasting—in Lashley last summer when they paired him off with MVP, which immediately revitalized his career.

Before embarking on one of the most dominant U.S. title reigns in recent memory, The All Mighty got his first crack at the WWE Championship in over a decade at Backlash in June against McIntyre. He took The Scottish Warrior to the limit and looked excellent in defeat, leaving fans wanting more of him in the main event mix.

Eight months later, we may finally be on the verge of getting that highly anticipated rematch.

Lashley has been built up strong enough that him walking into WrestleMania as WWE titleholder and defending against the former champ isn't far-fetched in the slightest. They had a terrific match the first time around and would surely have an even better bout under the bright lights of The Show of Shows.

In beating the seemingly unbeatable McIntyre, Lashley can cement his spot as Raw's top heel and ride out this wave of momentum for as long as it lasts.
