Booking the Blueprint to a Huge 2020 for AEW Star Jon Moxley

Since making the jump from WWE to All Elite Wrestling, Jon Moxley has become one of the most talked-about wrestlers of the last decade, but he needs to follow up on an iconic 2019 with an even stronger 2020.

Moxley has not lost a match in singles competition since joining the AEW roster, setting the stage for the former WWE world champion to rise to the title scene on Dynamite and become the unquestioned face of the brand.

As the holder of the AEW World Championship, Moxley could take the torch held by Chris Jericho and help bring the new wrestling company to a mainstream audience by transcending the business.

While winning the title would be a massive achievement for Moxley, having the championship stolen from him in 2020 after a short title reign could be even more beneficial for the success of the brand moving forward.

After AEW announced it had signed a deal with In Demand for the broadcast of four quarterly pay-per-views, we will break Moxley's ideal 2020 into quarters thanks to each major PPV event bringing a change in the direction of his character.

First Quarter

Moxley has already set his eyes on Jericho and the AEW title, but he shouldn't capture it during his first shot.

With Double or Nothing likely to take place on Memorial Day weekend again, as Tony Khan inferred after Full Gear, the world championship match between Moxley and Jericho should take place at the yet-to-be-named first-quarter event.

While Moxley may be arguably the hottest commodity in wrestling, Jericho has the Inner Circle at his disposal. Y2J walking out of 2020's first event as the defending champion while Moxley is forced to regroup will add more fuel to his anger and cause him to take his character to the next level.

The face contender chasing the heel champion is typically more entertaining, and pushing Moxley's eventual title victory to Double or Nothing would make for the most monumental moment possible.

Second Quarter

With the second quarter comes Double or Nothing, which has already become one of AEW's cornerstone shows. After battling back through the rankings against some of the top stars in the company, Moxley should get his rematch against Jericho for the world title.

This time, with the hardcore elements on his side, Moxley should defeat the champion and make the Inner Circle look foolish as he finally stands tall as the biggest star in the company. The victory at Double or Nothing would bring mainstream attention to the brand thanks to Moxley's popularity.

Not only would the first-ever title change be newsworthy for casual wrestling fans interested in the product, but letting Jericho hold the Championship through the first several months of the year would also provide the belt with the credibility it needs after debuting less than a year before.

As summer starts in 2020, Moxley being at the helm of the ship will help draw a renewed interest in Dynamite each week, despite the season being notoriously slow because of families traveling during summer break.

Third Quarter

Moxley has already put on memorable bouts against stars like Pac, Kenny Omega and Darby Allin, and his title reign should be defined by the term "Fighting Champion."

The champion should be fighting at least once a month in marquee title matches on television to build his reign and help other talent look strong despite the losses. Wrestlers like Joey Janela, Fenix and others could make for entertaining one-off challengers.

Eventually, Moxley will have to settle into a long-term feud that culminates with an unforgettable match at All Out. The ideal opponent would be MJF, who provides the true heel heat needed to help Moxley excel as an unfiltered badass who still represents the working man.

In addition to the great promo battles between Moxley and MJF, the matches would be entertaining and help cement the latter's status as the most hated heel in the business today.

With MJF still having problems with Cody, his former best friend should be the one to take down Wardlow and eventually screw MJF out of his title win over Moxley. The champion would be able to move on to the next storyline, and the year-long story between Cody and MJF would be ready to culminate at Full Gear in the fourth quarter.

Fourth Quarter

The world title scene is better with the face chasing, so Moxley should only hold the championship long enough to give it the needed credibility before dropping it to one of the company's top heels.

While there are many options to take the belt from Moxley at Full Gear, the top three stars worthy of the honor are Adam Page, Pentagon Jr. and Marty Scurll.

Page may be the least sexy of the options, but it makes the most sense from a storyline perspective. The former member of The Elite has turned his back on his friends and could spend the next year morphing into the monster cowboy heel gimmick that once permeated the territory days. With youth on his side and the right storytelling heading into the match, Page would be worthy of taking the title.

Another intriguing option would be Pentagon Jr. While his work in the tag team division has been incredible, the former Lucha Underground champion proved his worth as a singles star and could easily become the most marketable heel in AEW. Add in the fact that both men love hardcore matches and the feud would be a dream for wrestling fans.

The best option would be Marty Scurll if he decides to sign with AEW. The former ROH TV champion is set to become one of the hottest free agents in wrestling, and his long history with The Elite indicates he will probably land on Dynamite. As one of the best villains in the business, he could easily be the one to take Moxley's title, especially if he has help from The Butcher, The Blade and The Bunny.

With Moxley dropping the belt after only a few months on top, 2021 would be set up for the former champion's redemption story.
