WWE Survivor Series 2019 Results: Reviewing Top Highlights and Low Points

As one of the big four events of the year, WWE Survivor Series 2019 had a lot of potential to be amazing.

With NXT now in the battle for brand supremacy, every match was made even more epic and intriguing than previous years.

On top of that, the NXT, Universal and WWE Championships were all on the line to round out what could be the most stacked event in 2019 outside of WrestleMania.

But how did things play out? What were the standout moments of the event, for better or worse?

Presented in order of appearance, here is a breakdown of some of the highlights and low points of WWE Survivor Series 2019.

Highlight: Kickoff Pre-Show

Normally, the two hours of the pre-show are predominantly filled with vignettes, interviews, video packages and panel analysis that make it almost pointless to watch.

Thankfully, this go-around had three matches take place to eat up a considerable amount of time.

The battle royal was a good means to get lots of wrestlers on the card and do a different style match than the Triple Threats that were all throughout the card.

It was nice to see the cruiserweights wrestle, too. Too often, they're pushed aside and since Lio Rush had no involvement in TakeOver: WarGames, this more than made up for that.

To round it out, The Viking Raiders, The Undisputed Era and The New Day battled it out to let fans know what type of action everyone would be in store for with the champions showcases.

At the end of the kickoff, each brand had one point, which further reiterated how every match actually counted this year, instead of last year's fiasco when SmackDown's win was disregarded.

Highlight: Women's Elimination Triple Threat Match

As expected with 15 Superstars involved, this was a little messy at times, but that didn't stop it from being entertaining.

Surprisingly, everyone had more than one chance to shine in the ring. WWE's usual strategy is to eliminate a few names quickly to shave down some time, but that didn't happen.

Instead, nobody looked weak. WWE avoided taking the easy way out, which was impressive.

There were a few character moments throughout this that will pay off down the line, too. For instance, Asuka turning on Charlotte Flair and leading to their eliminations should help set up a match for the women's tag titles at TLC or on Monday Night Raw.

Rhea Ripley scoring the win for Team NXT solidifies that she's had a star-making run heading into Survivor Series and TakeOver. If she isn't a huge part of the plan for the women's division in 2020 and after, it will be shocking.

Highlight: AJ Styles vs. Roderick Strong vs. Shinsuke Nakamura

Putting AJ Styles, Roderick Strong and Shinsuke Nakamura in the ring together was a recipe for success that pretty much couldn't go wrong.

All they had to do was let them wrestle for this to be a highlight, which is exactly what happened.

There isn't much to unpack with this, though. There weren't any particularly notable moments that stood out.

It was just a good match with three talented performers doing their best to keep the crowd happy all throughout. There's nothing wrong with that.

Highlight: Adam Cole vs. Pete Dunne

The NXT Championship match was put in a bad position of almost being a bathroom break for the crowd, which needed a break. However, Adam Cole and Pete Dunne turned that around and got the audience energized after a few minutes.

Despite all the beatings they've taken over the past few weeks, they still battled like they were fresh.

That dedication to put on a great show is something NXT has that many stars on the main roster seem to lose over time. It's part of the reason why the black and gold brand is so beloved by the WWE Universe.

After a few near-falls and plenty of interesting counters, Cole and Dunne surely won over any fans who only watch Raw and SmackDown, which should only help NXT's ratings going forward.

This was a win on all accounts and a rock solid segment.

Low Point: Bray Wyatt vs. Daniel Bryan

WWE still hasn't learned from the past few matches that the red lighting for Bray Wyatt's fights is awful. In fact, the fans in attendance were chanting for normal lighting at one point, venting their frustrations at the hazy visuals.

To be fair, even watching this at home wasn't all that impressive.

When The Fiend was destroying Daniel Bryan, there wasn't much energy to it. When Bryan started to put up a fight, it wasn't believable that he would win, so it was only a matter of time when the tide would change.

If this is all that will happen with Wyatt going forward and he'll never wrestle a different type of match, the good will of that character will slowly whittle away.

Highlight: Men's Elimination Triple Threat Match

There were plenty of problems throughout the men's elimination match that could have turned this into a low point, but by the end, it all worked out.

At the start, this match was suffering from many of the issues the women's match avoided. Too many Superstars were doing virtually nothing and getting eliminated.

Walter's exit was met with boos and didn't do him justice as the top of the food chain in NXT UK.

Braun Strowman's count-out was ridiculous, as that was the one and only time that seemed to be a way to be eliminated in these two matches.

Eventually, though, things turned around and started becoming nonstop awesome moments.

It was smart to further the feud between King Corbin and Roman Reigns, as their tension here will give them more of a reason to fight at TLC.

Not giving the win to Seth Rollins was also the right call. The crowd wasn't much on his side and popped loudly when he was taken out.

Just like Ripley's had a great few weeks, Keith Lee has been massively put over and has shown that he has an incredibly bright future.

A few Superstars weren't able to shine, but many more positives came out of this than negatives.

Highlight: Brock Lesnar vs. Rey Mysterio

Watching Brock Lesnar destroy his opponents is normally a waste of time on the card, but this was a ton of fun.

It made perfect sense for him to destroy Rey Mysterio, given their huge size difference. The Beast Incarnate's cockiness was why this was dragged out, but not in a boring way.

Dominick's interference, which led to he and Mysterio double-teaming Lesnar, actually changed the dynamic of the match. For a few moments, it seemed as though Mysterio could actually win the title.

Though that was short-lived, that was a rush. By the time Lesnar planted Mysterio with the F-5 for the win, this match told exactly the story it should have told.

Highlight: Becky Lynch vs. Shayna Baszler vs. Bayley

When looking for a representative of each brand's women's division, it's hard to find a better trio than this group.

Becky Lynch, Shayna Baszler and Bayley are among the best female Superstars in WWE, so they had all the tools necessary to put on a great match.

The priorities here had to be to make sure Baszler was strong and Lynch didn't tap out or get pinned, so the right decision was made for the finish.

This secured a victory for NXT for the night, which should help that brand get more eyes going forward.

While it's a little disappointing the pay-per-view ended with just The Man standing tall and no surprises, this was still a good way to round out the night, as the match was great from start to finish.
