Fantasy Football Week 14: Biggest Sleepers at Every Position

DJ Chark

We went light on rookies when identifying sleepers this week since fantasy football managers are heading into a critical stretch of the 2022 season, but we couldn't resist one who will play in a marquee matchup. You'll see an intriguing Week 14 sleeper stack for the Monday Night Football game, too.

As a former league MVP nurses a knee injury, a backup signal-caller can turn back the clock to last December and put together a sparkling fantasy performance—almost a year to the date he finished as the top quarterback in scoring. This feels like déjà vu.

Mangers who prefer to have at least one player in the Monday Night Football game can double-dip on a quarterback-tight end tandem that had extra time to prepare for a juicy matchup against of the league's most generous pass defenses.

As many fantasy footballers compete for playoff seeding, we took a high-floor approach with several picks and mixed in a couple of options with great boom potential for anyone who falls behind in their matchups after the 1 p.m. ET games on Sunday.

Now, let's take a look at eight sleeper selections for point-per-reception scoring formats who are available in at least 40 percent of Yahoo leagues.

QB Tyler Huntley at Pittsburgh Steelers (23 Percent Rostered)

Tyler Huntley

DraftKings DFS Price: $5,500

Let's start off with a quarterback who has serious boom potential.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Lamar Jackson sprained his PCL in the Baltimore Ravens' previous game with the Denver Broncos. As the NFL insider noted, head coach John Harbaugh said the star quarterback seems “less likely” to suit up against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, which means Tyler Huntley would draw the start—his first of the season and fifth with the Ravens over the past two campaigns.

In Week 15 of the 2021 season, Huntley finished with the most fantasy points among quarterbacks (35.9) with 215 passing yards, 73 rushing yards and four touchdowns (two passing and two rushing) against the Green Bay Packers.

Like Jackson, Huntley offers some rushing production, so managers who prefer a quarterback with a higher ceiling should target the backup signal-caller for Week 14.

Last Sunday, Huntley took over for Jackson in the first quarter and ran for 41 yards and a touchdown in addition to throwing for 187 yards and an interception against the Denver Broncos.

Even with some potentially adverse weather in the game forecast, Huntley could post palatable passing numbers against the Steelers, who have allowed the fifth-most yards through the air and the ninth-most fantasy points to quarterbacks through Week 13. As a widely available fantasy option, he's in the QB2 discussion with decent upside because of his ability to move the ball on the ground.

QB Mac Jones at Arizona Cardinals (16 Percent Rostered)

Mac Jones
Mac Jones

DraftKings DFS Price: $5,100

Fantasy managers won't scramble to the waiver wire for Mac Jones, so you won’t have to place a high waiver claim or spend a lot of your free-agent acquisition budget dollars on him. In nine games, he’s thrown for 1,963 yards, seven touchdowns and seven interceptions. That's awful in terms of a player's fantasy outlook.

However, Jones outwardly expressed his discontent with the New England Patriots’ conservative approach on the sideline during a loss to the Buffalo Bills last week. Perhaps offensive coordinator Matt Patricia and the assistant coaches who put together weekly game plans listen to their signal-caller's gripes and open up the passing game.

And why not?

The Patriots will face the Arizona Cardinals, who have surrendered the third-most passing touchdowns (24) and rank 24th in yards allowed through the air.

In Week 12 against the Minnesota Vikings’ 32nd-ranked pass defense, the Patriots took a more aggressive approach with their aerial attack, and Jones went 28-of-39 passing for 382 yards and two touchdowns, scoring a season-high 23.3 fantasy points. He could have a similar output against the Cardinals' porous pass defense. Arizona is tied for third in fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks.

RB Travis Homer vs. Carolina Panthers (6 Percent Rostered)

Travis Homer

DraftKings DFS Price: $5,000

The Seattle Seahawks have all sorts of question marks in their backfield with multiple running backs on the mend.

Head coach Pete Carroll told reporters that Kenneth Walker III "jammed" his ankle during the previous game with the Los Angeles Rams before exiting early. DeeJay Dallas led the club in carries (10) and rushing yards (37) last week, but he played through an ankle injury as well. Tony Jones Jr. finished the last outing with seven carries for 14 yards in addition to two catches for 18 yards.

Running back Travis Homer could suit up against the Carolina Panthers after he missed the previous outing because of an illness and a knee injury. He started off the week with a limited practice.

Homer is a more appealing fantasy asset than Jones in PPR leagues because of his pass-catching role with the team, recording 46 receptions for 431 yards and two touchdowns in four seasons. The latter has just nine catches for 59 yards in 17 pro games.

If Walker and Dallas sit out Sunday, Homer could easily log double-digit fantasy points with a few catches and eight to 10 carries against the Panthers' 25th-ranked run defense. Also of note, the Panthers allow the ninth-most fantasy points to running backs.

RB Jerick McKinnon at Denver Broncos (53 Percent Rostered)

Jerick McKinnon
Jerick McKinnon

DraftKings DFS Price: $4,600

Even as a sleeper option, Jerick McKinnon should have a decent fantasy production floor in PPR leagues with a matchup against the Denver Broncos.

For starters, he's the Kansas City Chiefs' clear-cut No. 2 running back behind rookie seventh-rounder Isiah Pacheco while Clyde Edwards-Helaire recovers from a high ankle sprain on injured reserve.

Secondly, McKinnon matched his season-high in rush attempts last week (eight), rushing for 51 yards. He also caught two passes for nine yards and a touchdown.

Though the Broncos are tied for 24th in fantasy points allowed to running backs, their run defense has trended in the wrong direction as of late. They’ve given up at least 103 rushing yards in five of their past six outings and just surrendered 185 yards on the ground to the Carolina Panthers two weeks ago.

Furthermore, Denver ranks 20th in yards allowed per carry.

If McKinnon catches multiple passes on Sunday, which he's done in nine out of 12 contests this season, the Chiefs running back can provide solid flex value with 10 or more fantasy points.

WR Robert Woods vs. Jacksonville Jaguars (36 Percent Rostered)

Robert Woods
Robert Woods

DraftKings DFS Price: $4,500

In 12 games (10 starts), Robert Woods has hauled in 33 passes for 357 yards and a touchdown. Yes, the Tennessee Titans move the ball with a run-heavy offense, but the 10th-year veteran receiver has underwhelmed when you consider his starting role and offensive snap count (75 percent).

However, Woods could have his best game of the season if fellow Titans wideout Treylon Burks sits while in the concussion protocol. Last week, the latter took a big hit as he hauled in his first career touchdown pass.

Without Burks, Woods will have a chance to feast on the Jacksonville Jaguars pass defense after it allowed 337 yards to the Detroit Lions in Week 13. Tennessee's AFC South rival has allowed the ninth-most fantasy points to wide receivers and ranks 29th in passing yards allowed this season.

Keep in mind that Titans running back Derrick Henry has struggled over the past month, failing to eclipse 87 rushing yards in four consecutive contests with just one rushing score and a passing touchdown in that stretch. Perhaps Tennessee attacks Jacksonville’s secondary rather than its stout run defense, which allows just 4.1 yards per carry (seventh-best in the league).

WR DJ Chark vs. Minnesota Vikings (28 Percent Rostered)

DJ Chark
DJ Chark

DraftKings DFS Price: $4,300

DJ Chark has missed a large chunk of the season with an ankle injury, sitting out six of 12 games. Nonetheless, he’s made contributions to the Detroit Lions' high-end passing attack since the club activated him off injured reserve.

In Week 12, Chark scored a touchdown, and he had his best outing of the season against the Jacksonville Jaguars last week, hauling in five passes for 98 yards. Remember, the fifth-year veteran put together a Pro Bowl campaign in 2019, so he's capable of translating a steady number of targets into production.

This week, Chark draws a plus matchup with the Minnesota Vikings, which have allowed the most passing yards and the third-most fantasy points to wide receivers this season. In what could become a high-scoring game, the Lions' starting wideout has flex appeal with some boom potential, averaging 15.1 yards per catch.

TE Hunter Henry at Arizona Cardinals (44 Percent Rostered)

Hunter Henry
Hunter Henry

DraftKings DFS Price: $3,200

Fantasy managers can consider a sleeper stack with quarterback Mac Jones (see above) and Hunter Henry. This isn't a flashy pairing, but they could be effective against a defense that’s allowed an average of two passing touchdowns per game.

Henry gives managers a better chance to rack up points than fellow New England Patriots tight end Jonnu Smith. The former has seen at least five targets in four out of 12 games, while the latter hasn't garnered more than four targets in any of his 11 appearances this season.

Furthermore, Henry has two touchdown receptions, and Smith doesn’t have any for the 2022 campaign.

If the Patriots take advantage of a Cardinals defense that's allowed the most fantasy points to tight ends, Henry seems primed for a Monday night performance that puts him in the TE1 discussion for Week 14. He could easily rack up three or four catches and 50-plus receiving yards in a game for the fifth time this season.

TE Daniel Bellinger vs. Philadelphia Eagles (4 Percent Rostered)

Daniel Bellinger
Daniel Bellinger

DraftKings DFS Price: $3,300

In Week 7, Daniel Bellinger suffered a fractured eye socket and septum and underwent surgery. Before the injury, he caught multiple passes in four consecutive games as the New York Giants' starting tight end.

Last week, Bellinger returned to a sizable role in New York's passing game, hauling in all five of his targets for 24 yards. While his yards total won't wow anyone, the rookie fourth-rounder comes back to a big piece of Big Blue's pass-catching pie.

Other than wideout Darius Slayton, the Giants don't have a consistent pass-catcher, and Bellinger could become a reliable No. 2 option downfield. Fresh off a four-game absence, the 6'5", 253-pounder has picked up where he left off as a viable target in the aerial attack.

Bellinger will draw a tough matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles, who are tied for 24th in fantasy points allowed to tight ends, but quarterback Daniel Jones doesn't have a ton of pass-catching options in a matchup that will require the Giants to keep pace with the Eagles' second-ranked scoring offense.

Either out of necessity or because of a negative game script, Bellinger could see a lot of action. He tied with wideout Isaiah Hodgins for the second-most receptions on the team last week.
