Fantasy Football Big Board: Complete PPR Player Rankings for Week 12

Austin Ekeler
Austin Ekeler

It's Thanksgiving Week, and fantasy football managers have much to be thankful for in 2022.

Some fantasy managers are thankful for Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields and his happy feet, although they are equally anxious at the moment. Others are thankful for the right arm of Patrick Mahomes of the Chiefs. Or the left arm of Tua Tagovailoa of the Dolphins.

At running back, fantasy managers are thankful for the resurgence of Saquon Barkley of the Giants, another big year from Austin Ekeler of the Chargers and the surprising production of Jamaal Williams of the Lions.

Among pass-catchers, there's no shortage of thanks to be given, whether it's for numbers we expected from Justin Jefferson of the Vikings and Tyreek Hill of the Chiefs or numbers we didn't expect from Joshua Palmer of the Chargers.

And if you have Travis Kelce of the Chiefs? You skipped giving thanks and went straight to the happy dance.

Of course, there's another thing that fantasy managers want to be thankful for in a few weeks—a playoff spot. And just like the recipe for Aunt Becky's green bean casserole, these position-by-position PPR rankings for Week 12 are a step-by-step recipe for delicious victory.

Come for the fantasy advice, stay for the food analogies.

Quarterbacks

Justin Fields
Justin Fields

Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields has been the talk of fantasy football at the position for most of the season. Since Week 7, Fields is the highest-scoring quarterback in terms of points per game and the leader in total points by a massive margin. Since Week 6, Fields has eclipsed 80 rushing yards five times, topped 100 yards twice and broke the regular-season record for rushing yards by a quarterback in a game.

Fields is on pace to rush for 1,288 yards in 2022—a total that would break Lamar Jackson's single-season mark for quarterbacks. He has been the sort of massive value that wins leagues.

But all that is in jeopardy now.

Fields was carted to the locker room at the end of Sunday's loss to the Atlanta Falcons with a left shoulder injury. While talking to reporters Monday, Bears head coach Matt Eberflus wouldn't rule out Fields playing against the Jets in Week 12. But he also wouldn't rule out Fields missing the rest of the season.

“Right now, obviously you guys know the injury report comes out Wednesday," Eberflus said. "And right now, it’s day-to-day. We’ll see where he is on Wednesday. So, we’ve got time and we’ll see where it is and we’ll go from there.”

Thanks for clearing that up, coach.

GOOD MATCHUPS

Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals (vs. TEN) (DraftKings DFS Value: $6,700)

Burrow tied a career-high last week against the Steelers, throwing four touchdown passes in a Bengals win. With running back Joe Mixon in the concussion protocol, Burrow may have to go pass-heavy against a Titans defense that's much easier to throw on than run on in 2022.

Geno Smith, Seattle Seahawks (vs. LV) (DraftKings DFS Value: $6,000)

Smith has been one of the biggest surprises of the season under center—he's 11th in fantasy points per game among quarterbacks. The Raiders have been a prime matchup for opposing quarterbacks this year, allowing the third-most fantasy points per game to the position.

BAD MATCHUPS

Daniel Jones, New York Giants (at DAL) (DraftKings DFS Value: $5,500)

Jones hasn't been especially prolific as a passer this year, but his ability to gain yardage with his legs has kept him fantasy-relevant. He's not going to feast on Thanksgiving, though—among NFC teams, only the Philadelphia Eagles allow fewer fantasy points per game to quarterbacks than the Cowboys.

Ryan Tannehill, Tennessee Titans (at CIN) (DraftKings DFS Value: $5,400)

To his credit, Tannehill just bucked a bad fantasy matchup to the tune of 333 yards and two scores against the Green Bay Packers. But the Titans are a run-first team playing a Cincinnati Bengals team in Week 12 that has quietly been a bottom-five fantasy matchup for quarterbacks this season.

SLEEPER

Taylor Heinicke, Washington Commanders (vs. ATL) (DraftKings DFS Value: $5,300)

Regardless of whether Carson Wentz is healthy, Heinicke has been named Washington's starting quarterback. Heinicke hasn't done much statistically this season, but a matchup with Atlanta's 29th-ranked pass defense could open the door for a big outing.

Running Backs

Derrick Henry
Derrick Henry

The king is back. Long live the king.

Over the first two weeks of the 2022 season, fantasy managers who invested a first-round pick in Tennessee Titans running backs were getting a tad nervous—Henry had just 107 yards and one touchdown over that span and ranked 36th in PPR points among running backs.

As it turns out, Henry was just getting warmed up.

Since Week 3, Henry has failed to run for 85 yards in a game just once. He has failed to hit 100 total yards in a game just once. He has found the end zone in five of seven games and scored twice three times. The only time over that span he failed to amass 20 touches was a Week 9 meeting with the Chiefs in which he rushed for 115 yards and two scores.

Most importantly, over that span, only Austin Ekeler of the Chargers has more PPR points among running backs.

Not bad for a guy who has just 18 receptions for the season.

GOOD MATCHUPS

James Conner, Arizona Cardinals (vs. LAC) (DraftKings DFS Value: $6,600)

Conner has had his moments in recent weeks, including a two-score effort against the Rams in Week 10. Sunday's tilt with the Chargers sets up well for Conner—they rank 30th in the league in run defense, allowing 148.4 yards per game on the ground.

Leonard Fournette, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (at CLE) (DraftKings DFS Value: $5,800)

Fournette suffered a hip injury in Germany two weeks ago, but reports indicate he should be good to go this week in Cleveland. Both he and rookie Rachaad White could be set to shine against a Cleveland defense surrendering the second-most PPR points per game to running backs.

BAD MATCHUPS

Alvin Kamara, New Orleans (at SF) (DraftKings DFS Value: $7,300)

Kamara has been neither great nor terrible for fantasy managers this season—he's 11th in PPR points per game among running backs for the season. This week's matchup against the Niners is an uphill climb—San Fran has ranked toward the bottom of the league in points allowed to running backs all season long.

Joe Mixon, Cincinnati Bengals (vs. TEN) (DraftKings DFS Value: $7,000)

Mixon has been more-or-less as advertised for fantasy managers this season, although his seventh-place ranking in fantasy points his at least in part thanks to his five-touchdown game against Carolina. Even if Mixon clears concussion protocol, he faces the AFC's No. 1 run defense in Week 12.

SLEEPER

Latavius Murray, Denver Broncos (at CAR) (DraftKings DFS Value: $5,000)

With Melvin Gordon no longer in Denver and Chase Edmonds sidelined by injury, it appears at least for now that the Denver backfield belongs to Murray. That could mean big things this week against the Panthers and their 27th-ranked run defense.

WEEK 12 RUNNING BACK RANKINGS

1. Saquon Barkley, NYG (at DAL)

2. Austin Ekeler, LAC (at ARI)

3. Derrick Henry, TEN (vs. CIN)

50. Dontrell Hilliard, TEN (vs. CIN)

Wide Receivers

Tyreek Hill
Tyreek Hill

With Cooper Kupp of the Los Angeles Rams out for at least six weeks (and quite possibly the rest of the season), the title of the No. 1 wide receiver in fantasy football has become a wide-open race with four main candidates.

The current leader in terms of both total PPR points and points per game is Stefon Diggs of the Buffalo Bills. Diggs was invisible for most of the first half last week, but after a sideline conversation with head coach Sean McDermott, Diggs finished the win over Cleveland with four catches for 48 yards and a score.

Right behind Diggs is Tyreek Hill of the Miami Dolphins, who was on a bye in Week 11. Hill has only found the end zone four times this season, but his 81 receptions and 1,148 yards both pace the league.

Not much has gone right for the Las Vegas Raiders this year, but wide receiver Davante Adams has been as advertised. Adams caught seven passes for 141 yards and two scores (including the game-winner in overtime) in last week's win over the Broncos on the way to logging the most Week 11 fantasy points of any wideout in the league.

Last but not least, there's Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings, who is well on his way to becoming the most productive wide receiver in league history over the first three seasons of his career. Jefferson was held in check last week by the Cowboys, but he has been a force most of the season.

Which of that quartet will win out remains to be seen. But if you have any of them on your fantasy team, you have no doubt been pleased with your return on investment so far.

GOOD MATCHUPS

Tee Higgins, Cincinnati Bengals (vs. TEN) (DraftKings DFS Value: $6,900)

Higgins had a big game against the Steelers last week with Ja'Marr Chase (hip) sidelined, catching nine passes for 148 yards. Chase is expected to return to practice this week, but Higgins should still have at least one prime start ahead of him against Tennessee's leaky pass defense.

Christian Kirk, Jacksonville Jaguars (vs. BAL) (DraftKings DFS Value: $6,500)

In some respects, the bye came at a bad time for Kirk. He was on quite the roll, with 17 catches for 181 yards and three scores in the two games before the off week. The Jaguars will likely be playing from behind here, and the Ravens are allowing the seventh-most PPR points per game to wide receivers this season.

BAD MATCHUPS

Diontae Johnson, Pittsburgh Steelers (at IND) (DraftKings DFS Value: $5,200)

Johnson's 86 targets rank ninth in the NFL this season, but his catch percentage is under 60 percent, he's averaging less than nine yards a reception and he has yet to find the end zone. Now he draws the worst fantasy matchup in the league for wide receivers to boot with the Colts.

Darnell Mooney, Chicago Bears (at New York Jets) (DraftKings DFS Value: $5,100)

Mooney's production has picked up over the past three weeks—he has scored a touchdown and topped 12 PPR points twice over that span. But rookie cornerback Ahmad Gardner and the Jets defense has allowed the fifth-fewest PPR points per game to wide receivers this season.

SLEEPER

Curtis Samuel, Washington Commanders (vs. ATL) (DraftKings DFS Value: $5,000)

The installation of Taylor Heinicke at quarterback has turned Washington's season around, but it hasn't done any favors for Samuel's fantasy value. The Falcons have been kind to opposing receivers, however, allowing the most PPR points per game in the NFC to the position.

WEEK 12 WIDE RECEIVER RANKINGS

1. Justin Jefferson, MIN (vs. NE)

2. Stefon Diggs, BUF (at DET)

3. Tyreek Hill, MIA (vs. HOU)

4. Davante Adams, LV (at SEA)

Tight Ends

Travis Kelce
Travis Kelce

The farther we get into the 2022 season, the more it becomes clear that there is a clear demarcation at the tight end position.

Either you have Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs on your team, or you do not.

The gap between Kelce and the No. 2 tight end (Mark Andrews of the Baltimore Ravens) has become a chasm. After catching three touchdown passes on Sunday night against the Los Angeles Chargers (his second game of the season with three or more scores), Kelce is outscoring Andrews by almost eight PPR points per game. The gap between Kelce and the No. 5 tight end is almost 10 points per game.

To say that Kelce is affording fantasy managers a weekly advantage doesn't begin to describe it. And Kelce is once again more than living up to his draft-day asking price.

GOOD MATCHUPS

Foster Moreau, Las Vegas Raiders (at SEA) (DraftKings DFS Value: $3,400)

Moreau was held to just one catch on three targets last week against the Denver Broncos. But the Seattle Seahawks have been a goldmine for the position all season long, allowing the second-most PPR points per game to tight ends in 2022.

David Njoku, Cleveland Browns (vs. TB) (DraftKings DFS Value: $3,600)

Njoku was quiet in his return to action last week, managing just two catches for 17 yards against the Buffalo Bills. But it was more important that Njoku emerged from the game unscathed ahead of this week's favorable fantasy matchup for tight ends with the Buccaneers.

BAD MATCHUPS

Juwan Johnson, New Orleans Saints (at SF) (DraftKings DFS Value: $3,400)

Johnson is quietly having a solid season—he has five touchdown catches, including one in each of the past three games. But the 49ers play defense as well as any team in the NFL, and they haven't been kind to opposing tight ends this season.

Cade Otton, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (at CLE) (DraftKings DFS Value: $3,300)

Otton is no Rob Gronkowski, but he has had his moments this season, including a 5/68/1 line a couple of weeks ago against the Rams. However, Otton's target share has been erratic, and this week's matchup with the Browns isn't a good one for tight ends.

SLEEPER

Trey McBride, Arizona Cardinals (vs. LAC) (DraftKings DFS Value: $3,200)

Hopes that McBride would earn a target share similar to the injured Zach Ertz have not materialized—at all. But the youngster was arguably the top tight end in last year's draft class, and the Chargers are a good matchup on paper for the Redbirds to get him more involved offensively.

WEEK 12 TIGHT END RANKINGS

1. Travis Kelce, KCV (vs. LAR)

2. Mark Andrews, BAL (at JAX)

3. George Kittle, SF (vs. NO)

4. T.J. Hockenson, MIN (vs. NE)

5. Dalton Schultz, DAL (vs. NYG)

6. David Njoku, CLE (vs. TB)

7. Foster Moreau, LV (at SEA)

8. Gerald Everett, LAC (at ARI) [INJURED]

9. Dawson Knox, BUF (at DET)

Kickers and Defenses

Brett Maher
Brett Maher

As is always the case on Thanksgiving, there will be plenty of football to go with all the food, family and friends—three games running from early afternoon into the evening.

The middle of that delicious football sandwich has the potential to be a feast for fantasy managers on defense—and potentially at kicker as well.

After completely dominating the Vikings in Minnesota last week, the Dallas Cowboys lead all NFC defenses in fantasy points. It's the second consecutive season that Dallas has fielded an elite fantasy defense. Last year, the Cowboys led the league in takeaways. This season, Micah Parsons and the Dallas pass rush paces the league with 42 sacks—including seven against the Vikings last week.

When the Cowboys take on the rival Giants, the game will also feature two of fantasy's better kickers. Graham Gano of the Giants has cooled off of late, but over the first seven weeks of the season, he was fourth at the position in fantasy points, While Gano has been cooling off, Brett Maher of the Cowboys has been heating up—after a big Week 11 that included three field goals from 50 yards or farther out, Maher ranks third for the season in points.

If nothing else, having one of them in your lineup gives you something to cheer for as you decided whether a third slice of pie is a good idea.

For the record, it is.

GOOD MATCHUPS

Ryan Succop, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (at CLE)

Tampa's offense has struggled at times this season, but Succop has remained fantasy relevant—he's eighth in fantasy points among kickers. This week he faces a Browns team that has given up the second-most points per game to kickers in 2022.

Denver Broncos Defense (at CAR) (DraftKings DFS Value: $3,800)

The Broncos are a mess right now, but the team's lack of wins can't be blamed on the league's No. 3 defense in terms of both and yards and points allowed. Now that defense will take on a Carolina Panthers offense that is completely stagnant with Baker Mayfield under center.

BAD MATCHUPS

Wil Lutz, New Orleans Saints (at SF)

The Saints have struggled with consistency offensively at times this season, but that hasn't prevented Lutz from being a top-10 fantasy option. However, a matchup with a San Francisco 49ers defense allowing the fewest fantasy points per game to kickers just might.

Baltimore Ravens Defense (at JAX) (DraftKings DFS Value: $3,700)

At first glance, fantasy's sixth-ranked defense might appear a good play on the road this week against the Jaguars. But Jacksonville hasn't given up many fantasy points to defenses through 11 weeks this season—22nd in points per game allowed.

SLEEPER

Kansas City Chiefs (vs. LAR) (DraftKings DFS Value: $2,800)

Even when the Rams were healthy, Los Angeles was leading the league in fantasy points per game allowed to defenses. Now, the team is without Cooper Kupp and will probably be starting Bryce Perkins at quarterback in a game in which he will have to throw the ball.

Top 100 Players/"Flex" Rankings

Stefon Diggs
Stefon Diggs

Before we get to the top 100 players overall for Week 12 (a list that can be of assistance when making "flex" calls), it's time for the weekly disclaimer and advice.

The disclaimer is the same as always. There are no quarterbacks listed here. If your fantasy league utilities a "superflex" spot, you have to get pretty far down the list of quarterbacks before you want anyone but a signal-caller in that spot—although to be fair, the worse the weather gets the more the idea of starting a running back over a low-end quarterback makes sense.

This week's advice is this. With just three weeks left in the regular season in most leagues, every week takes on a great deal more importance for fringe contenders. If you are in a must-win game and fashion yourself an underdog, don't be afraid to get bold with lineup calls, or to sacrifice some floor for a higher ceiling if you feel like you need the points.

If you're going to go down, you might as well go down swinging.
