Updated 2023 NFL Draft Order After Sunday's Week 10 Results

Entering Week 10 of the 2022 season, the Houston Texans and Las Vegas Raiders had two of the worst records in the league. And both lost again on Sunday to continue their road to early selections in the 2023 NFL draft.

The Texans fell 24-16 in a road matchup against the New York Giants, dropping to an NFL-worst 1-7-1 this season, while the Raiders lost 25-20 at home against the Indianapolis Colts as they fell further out of the race in what was expected to be a competitive AFC West.

Unless these teams turn things around soon, they'll likely have top draft picks. And there are other struggling squads in similar positions after 10 weeks of the 18-week regular season.

With most of the Week 10 action complete (all that remains is a Monday night matchup between the Washington Commanders and Philadelphia Eagles), here's a look at how the projected 2023 NFL draft order stands.

Since their Week 6 bye, the Texans have lost four consecutive games. The first of those was against the Raiders, but the most recent three have been against some of the NFL's top teams: the Titans, Eagles and Giants.

So, it's not a huge surprise that Houston hasn't recorded a win since beating Jacksonville in Week 5. And there are a lot of challenging matchups for the Texans down the stretch, too.

That's why Houston's next best chance to end its skid may come in Week 11, when it hosts Washington. The Commanders will likely be 4-6 at that point (assuming they lose to the undefeated Eagles on Monday night), so it'll be a winnable game for the Texans.

After that, Houston will play four of five games against teams that currently have winning records. It would be much better for the Texans to enter that stretch with some momentum, rather than a lengthy losing streak.

After making the playoffs last season, the Raiders are 2-7 in the 2022 campaign. It's not what anybody expected from them. They have talented players on both sides of the ball, and they added star wide receiver Davante Adams over the offseason.

Yet, Las Vegas has now lost three straight games and is showing no signs of turning things around. Sunday's loss to the Colts may have been the Raiders' worst yet. It was the first game for Indianapolis interim head coach Jeff Saturday, who had no prior NFL or college coaching experience and had been working as an analyst for ESPN.

The Colts made a late decision to make a quarterback change and go back to veteran Matt Ryan, who then threw the go-ahead touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter. The Raiders couldn't respond, turning the ball over on downs in the red zone in the final minute.

"It's hard, knowing what some guys are doing ... just to practice. What they're putting in their body just to sleep at night," Las Vegas quarterback Derek Carr told reporters. "Just so we can be there for each other. And I wish everybody in that room felt the same way about this place."

In Week 11, the Raiders will play another AFC West team that has underperformed: the 3-6 Broncos. Las Vegas beat Denver in Week 4 and will look to do so again to end its latest skid.

The bright spot to a bad season is getting a top pick in the next draft. That remains a silver lining for the likes of Texans and Raiders fans.

However, there are quite a few teams this year that are struggling and also no longer own its first-round selection in 2023.

The Saints fell to 3-7 with a loss to the Steelers on Sunday. But New Orleans' first-round pick belongs to Philadelphia, which acquired the selection in a trade that occurred during the 2022 NFL draft.

The Broncos, Rams and Browns are all 3-6, but none of them own their first-round pick. Denver's selection went to Seattle in the Russell Wilson trade, Los Angeles' pick went to Detroit in the Matthew Stafford trade, and Cleveland's selection went to Houston in the Deshaun Watson trade.

So, at this point, four of the first nine picks in the 2023 NFL draft would be selections that moved via trades. It may work out best for the Eagles, which have the best record in the league and may still end up with a top-five pick in the upcoming draft as well.
