Waiver Wire Week 3: Jimmy Garoppolo, Tua Tagovailoa Highlight Pickups to Know
Waiver Wire Week 3: Jimmy Garoppolo, Tua Tagovailoa Highlight Pickups to Know

A shift in how a few quarterbacks are viewed in the fantasy football sphere occurred during Sunday's Week 2 games.
Jimmy Garoppolo will be the San Francisco 49ers' starting quarterback moving forward after Trey Lance suffered a season-ending ankle injury against the Seattle Seahawks.
Garoppolo is not the only quarterback that will be intriguing to fantasy players on the waiver wire leading into Week 3.
Tua Tagovailoa's 469-yard, six-touchdown outing against the Baltimore Ravens showcased the potential the Miami Dolphins offense has with its quarterback combining at a high level with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle.
Quarterback should have more waiver-wire attention than usual heading into Week 3, but if you are set there, there are plenty of other players to focus on to improve your squad for next week.
Jimmy Garoppolo, QB, San Francisco

San Francisco got a game and a quarter into the 2022 season before it had to call on its insurance policy at quarterback.
Jimmy Garoppolo threw for 154 yards and a touchdown in his relief appearance against the Seattle Seahawks. It was later confirmed that he will be the starter moving forward since Lance is out with an ankle injury.
Garoppolo's Week 2 totals were not as flashy as Tua Tagovailoa's numbers, but everything about his situation should make him an intriguing addition if you need help at quarterback.
Garoppolo is familiar with the 49ers system and he could increase the fantasy value of Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk in the passing game. The same could be said about George Kittle when he returns to the field. Kittle missed the first two games with a groin injury.
The top players in the San Francisco offense will be needed over the next few weeks for the 49ers to find their footing in the NFC standings. The 49ers visit Denver, Carolina and Atlanta as well as play a home game with the Los Angeles Rams over the next four weeks.
Kyle Shanahan and his staff may be willing to open up the playbook more because Garoppolo does not need to work his way into the offense, as Lance was doing in the first two games.
A waiver-wire addition of Garoppolo is rooted more in the opportunity than numbers from Weeks 1 and 2, but he could be a reliable backup, or spot starter, throughout the season.
Tua Tagovailoa, QB, Miami

The excitement around Tua Tagovailoa is at an all-time high after Week 2.
Tagovailoa led the Dolphins back from a 21-point deficit in the fourth quarter to beat the Ravens on the road.
The left-handed signal-caller threw for 469 yards and six touchdowns as part of the comeback. He combined with Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle for 22 receptions and 361 yards.
A performance of that caliber on the road against a playoff contender should set off a wave of waiver wire pickups for Tagovailoa in the coming days.
He displayed flashes of what he could do with Hill and Waddle with 270 yards and a touchdown pass in Week 1, but Sunday's game was the statement.
Tagovailoa has a chance to prove that his Week 2 performance was not a fluke right away since the Dolphins play the Buffalo Bills in Week 3 and take on the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 4.
If you wait until after those games, you may not be able to land Tagovailoa because of the demand that should be coming this week.
Garrett Wilson, WR, New York Jets

Garrett Wilson turned in the first of what could be many breakout games in 2022 on Sunday.
The first-round pick out of Ohio State produced 102 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns in the New York Jets' come-from-behind win over the Cleveland Browns.
Wilson earned 14 targets from Joe Flacco. He caught eight of those balls in a performance that was exponentially better than the Week 1 outing against Baltimore.
Wilson doubled his reception total from the season opener and he was two targets away from doing the same in that category.
The rookie wide out has clearly gained the trust of Flacco inside the Jets offense, and he could continue to be the go-to guy inside the Jets offense.
Like Tagovailoa, the time to pick up Wilson is now because the demand for him on the waiver wire will only grow as the weeks' progress.
Raheem Mostert, RB, Miami

The Miami running back situation is still murky after two weeks.
Raheem Mostert took the lead in the competition over Chase Edmonds, as he produced 51 rushing yards on 11 carries. Edmonds managed just 33 yards on five carries.
The production flipped from Week 1 when Edmonds had 12 carries for 25 yards and Mostert totaled 16 yards on five carries.
Mostert turned in the best single-game total of the early season, so that seems like the angle to land him off the waiver wire going into Week 3.
The situation is still a bit of a guessing game, but Mostert's situation may be one in which you buy a bit low on him and hope the production follows.
Miami may not have an RB1 from the fantasy perspective all season because of how often Hill and Waddle have the ball in their hands.
Mostert may be the best option on the waiver wire since there was a lack of breakout candidates in Week 2.
Arizona's Eno Benjamin and Darrel Williams could join Mostert on the top additions list, but that will not become clear until James Conner's status is revealed. Conner suffered an ankle injury on Sunday.
