Updated Top 100 Prospects After 2022 MLB Draft

Now that the 2022 MLB draft is complete, it's time for an updated version of our top 100 prospect list.

All told, 11 players were selected this summer who found their way onto our top 100 list, and they were joined by 14 other newcomers from across the minor league ranks who have improved their stock enough to be mentioned among the game's elite prospects.

The following factors helped determine where each player fell in our updated rankings:

• Potential: This trumps production a lot of the time, especially in the lower levels of the minors and with recent draft picks. Skill set and tools are often better indicators of what kind of player someone will be.

• Talent: For those in the higher levels of the minors who are close to breaking into the big leagues, production and talent level were the determining factors since the players are viewed as more complete products.

• Eligibility: A player must maintain rookie eligibility to be considered for inclusion. That means no more than 130 big league at-bats for position players, 50 innings for pitchers or 45 days on the active roster.

Let's start with 50 players who fell just outside the rankings.

Prospect Snapshot

-Catcher Bo Naylor saw his prospect stock plummet last season when he hit .189 with a .612 OPS at Double-A, but he has bounced back in a big way this year. The 2018 first-round pick is batting .280/.430/.504 with 32 extra-base hits in 75 games in the upper levels of the minors.

-Right-handers Wilmer Flores (2.23 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, 88 K, 64.2 IP at A+/AA) and Ty Madden (2.74 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 79 K, 82.0 IP at A+) give the Detroit Tigers the potential for two more promising, homegrown starting pitchers.

-Signed for $1.5 million as part of the 2019 international free-agent class, Adael Amador has put together a breakout performance in his full-season debut. The 19-year-old is hitting .307/.415/.478 with 18 doubles, 12 home runs and 40 RBI in 80 games at Single-A Fresno.

Prospect Snapshot

-Despite slipping to the second round, Brock Porter landed a $3.7 million bonus from the Texas Rangers, shattering the $560,200 slot value of his draft position. That is a good indication of the upside that the 6'4" right-hander possesses, and he was widely regarded as the best prep pitcher in the 2022 class.

-Drafted for his huge raw power, outfielder James Wood has shown a better-than-expected approach at the plate. The 6'7" slugger is batting .304/.429/.536 with a 16.4 percent walk rate in 51 games between rookie ball and Single-A.

-Right-hander Gavin Stone looks like the next great homegrown Dodgers pitcher. The 23-year-old has a 1.50 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 112 strikeouts in 84 innings between High-A and Double-A this year, and he has added three to four mph to his fastball since starting his pro career.

Prospect Snapshot

-Tink Hence has been as dominant as any pitcher in the minors this year. The 19-year-old has struck out 53 of the 116 batters he has faced, posting a 1.15 ERA, 0.77 WHIP and a .135 opponents' batting average in 31.1 innings at Single-A. He could easily crack the top 50 by season's end.

-The No. 28 pick in 2021, shortstop Carson Williams is hitting .261/.356/.498 with 17 doubles, 13 home runs and 21 steals in 78 games at Single-A. His 122 strikeouts and 33.7 percent strikeout rate is concerning, but there's a lot to like about his full array of tools.

-With J.T. Realmuto signed through the 2025 season, the Phillies have an enviable problem, with Logan O'Hoppe posting an .887 OPS with 15 home runs and 44 RBI at Double-A. Could he be used in a deadline deal?

-Vaughn Grissom has the highest ranking of any prospect not included in the last Top 100 list, excluding 2022 draft picks. The 6'3", 210-pound shortstop is hitting .320/.405/.497 with 18 doubles, 13 home runs, 63 RBI, 67 runs scored and 24 steals in 85 games between High-A and Double-A, and he is now the No. 1 prospect in the Atlanta system.

-After hitting .370/.464/.630 with 15 home runs and more walks (27) than strikeouts (22) this spring at LSU, No. 6 pick Jacob Berry should move as quickly through the minors as any 2022 selection.

-Vinnie Pasquantino posted a .948 OPS with 18 home runs and 67 RBI in 69 games at Triple-A before he made his MLB debut June 28, and with Carlos Santana traded to Seattle, he has settled in as Kansas City's primary designated hitter.

-After a shaky first month, Jasson Dominguez is hitting .284/.409/.489 with 25 extra-base hits in 274 plate appearances since the start of May. He will be 19 years old for the entirety of the 2022 season and was just promoted to High-A.

-Outfielder Elijah Green was given a rare 70-power/70-speed tool profile by Baseball America in his predraft scouting report, and that speaks to the tremendous upside the No. 5 pick possesses. Can he make enough consistent contact?

-A two-way standout in high school, Masyn Winn is moving quickly through the St. Louis farm system as a shortstop. The 20-year-old is hitting .294/.359/.478 with 37 extra-base hits and 26 steals in 79 games this year, and he was clocked at 100.5 mph on a throw from shortstop to first base in the Futures Game.

Prospect Snapshot

-Far and away the best prospect in the Astros system, right-hander Hunter Brown is quickly emerging as one of the best pitching prospects in baseball. Armed with a high-octane fastball and a hammer curve, he has a 2.62 ERA and 101 strikeouts in 75.2 innings at Triple-A.

-Brooks Lee could wind up being the steal of the 2022 draft after going No. 8 overall. The Cal Poly standout hit .357/.462/.664 with 25 doubles, 15 home runs and more walks (46) than strikeouts (28) this spring. A move to second base or third base is likely down the road.

-Left-hander Nick Lodolo has missed plenty of bats with 47 strikeouts in 32.1 innings in his first taste of the big leagues this season. However, he has also found plenty of barrels, with 11.1 hits per nine innings and a .301 opponents' batting average.

Prospect Snapshot

-Among 2021 draft picks, only No. 2 overall selection Jack Leiter ranks higher than Gavin Williams (1.76 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, 103 K, 76.2 IP at A+/AA) and Ricky Tiedemann (2.13 ERA, 0.87 WHIP, 103 K, 67.2 IP at A/A+) among pitching prospects. There were 10 pitchers taken ahead of Williams and a whopping 38 taken ahead of Tiedemann.

-Futures Game MVP Shea Langeliers could be in Oakland before the season is over, especially with incumbent catcher Sean Murphy drawing significant trade interest leading up to the deadline.

-Outfielder Pete Crow-Armstrong was the key return piece in the deal that sent Javier Baez to the New York Mets last summer, and now he's the top prospect in the Cubs organization. The 20-year-old is hitting .307/.371/.538 with 13 home runs and 20 steals while continuing to play Gold Glove-caliber defense in the outfield.

Prospect Snapshot

-Triston Casas missed nearly two months with an ankle injury but finally returned to action in mid-July. The 22-year-old could get a look in the big leagues down the stretch as the Red Sox try to assess whether he can be the everyday first baseman in 2023.

-With a .301/.394/.498 line that includes 20 doubles and 13 home runs in 79 games at Double-A, Brett Baty might already be the best offensive third baseman in the Mets organization.

-This year's No. 1 overall pick, Jackson Holliday, hit a ridiculous .685/.749/1.392 this spring with 89 hits in 41 games to break J.T. Realmuto's national high school record for hits in a season. He could push his way into the top 10 in no time.

Prospect Snapshot

-With Grayson Rodriguez and Daniel Espino both on the injured list, Eury Perez (3.36 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, 94 K, 67.0 IP) and Taj Bradley (1.59 ERA, 0.90 WHIP, 96 K, 79.1 IP) are the two best active pitching prospects in baseball. The 19-year-old Perez is already pitching at Double-A, while the 21-year-old Bradley made his Triple-A debut on Sunday with five scoreless innings.

-Outfielder Jackson Chourio is already playing at High-A Wisconsin, and he won't turn 19 years old until next March. The youngest player in full-season ball when the 2022 campaign began, he hit .324/.373/.600 with 23 doubles, 12 home runs and 10 steals in 62 games at Single-A before he was promoted.

-Shortstops Elly De La Cruz (78 G, .293/.349/.579, 20 HR, 31 SB) and Ezequiel Tovar (66 G, .318/.386/.546, 13 HR, 17 SB) are both strong candidates for the title of biggest breakout prospect of the 2022 season.

-Shortstop Gunnar Henderson has moved into the top tier of MLB prospects by hitting an impressive .299/.426/.565 with 18 doubles, 16 home runs and a 17 percent walk rate between Double-A and Triple-A. He also just turned 21 on June 29.

-A tip of the cap to a D-backs organization that has a top-heavy farm system that features three of the game's top 10 prospects. The future is bright in the desert, especially with some solid young pieces already in place in the majors.

-With Bobby Witt Jr., Adley Rutschman, Julio Rodriguez, Riley Greene, Spencer Torkelson, CJ Abrams and Nolan Gorman all exhausting their prospect status, the No. 1 overall prospect spot now belongs to catcher Francisco Alvarez. The 20-year-old has an .883 OPS with 19 doubles, 19 home runs and 55 RBI in 79 games between Double-A and Triple-A this year.
